Biography

Pirkko Nieminen was a gymnast who was the national champion on the bars in 1957 and in the all-round event in 1960. Nieminen represented Finland at the 1960 Roma Olympics, with her best individual performance coming in the uneven bars where she tied for 31st place out of 124 competitors. She finished outside the top 60 in the floor exercise, horse vault, balance beam, and the individual all-round, with the Finnish team ending the competition in 13th place.

Nieminen competed at the World Championships in 1958 and 1962 and at the European Championships in 1961. In 1961 she also won the silver medal in the team competition at the Nordic Championships, in addition to finishing in fourth place in the individual competition.
