Biography
After his Olympic appearance in 1924, Catalan fighter Lorenzo Vitria embarked on a professional career. Not many results are known, but he contested the Spanish bantamweight title in 1932, losing to Carlos Flix. A shop owner in Barcelona, Vitria fled the country when the city was occupied by the Spanish Nationalists in January 1939. Living in a refugee camp in southern France, he was arrested when the Germans occupied the country in 1940. On the “Convoy of the 927”, Vitria was deported to the Austrian concentration camp Mauthausen-Gusen. He died there five months after his arrival.
