Biography

Between 1954 and 1963, Endre Tihanyi was a gymnast at Angyalföldi Sports School, and between 1963 and 1974 at the FTC. During this active sports career Tihanyi won the national championship in horse vault twice (1967, 1972) and in floor exercise three times (1967, 1968, 1971). In 1967, Tihanyi was named as the gymnast of the year in Hungary.

Between 1965 and 1970, Tihanyi was one of the members of the national gymnastics team. In 1968, he took part at the Mexico Olympics, where he finished 61st overall as an individual, and 13th as a member of the Hungarian team.

After finishing his career as a gymnast, Tihanyi worked as a head coach, training several national team gymnasts. Tihanyi then worked in the management of the Hungarian Gymnastics Federation from 1993, and retired from there as well. At the end of his successful sports career, the FTC presidency awarded Endre Tihanyi the title “FTC Honorary Member”.
