Amateur boxer Luis Aranda represented Argentina at the 1959 Pan American Games in Chicago, where he won silver in the light-welterweight class, losing to the American Vincent Shomo in the final. One year later Aranda fought at the same weight at the Roma Olympics, defeating Rogelio Reyes (MEX) before losing to Piero Brandi (ITA). He then turned professional, winning his first three fights, before suffering his first loss in June 1962. Aranda had two more fights that year, winning the first and losing the second, before retiring from the ring.
