Biography

Aside from his Olympic bronze, Ārons Boguļubovs was the European open lightweight champion in 1963 and 1964, and took amateur half-middleweight bronze in 1966. He also won European team titles in 1964 and 1965. As the first Soviet championships in judo where held in 1973, Boguļubovs never won a Soviet judo title, but he was Soviet sambo (a Soviet wrestling style similar to judo) lightweight champion in 1958, 1963 and 1964. After finishing his sporting career, Boguļubovs worked as a sambo and judo coach.
