Biography

Martina Boesler rowed on the East German eights at the 1980 Moskva Olympics and won the gold medal. A year earlier she had won silver at the World Championships, also with the eights. She married directly after the Olympics to the non-Olympian rower Bert Wieduwilt, who was killed in a car accident in 1985.

Boesler was trained in film copying techniques, but worked as a secretary after re-unification. Her sister Petra won a rowing silver at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. Their aunt Renate Boesler was also a rower, winning several European titles during the 1960s, and she was married to Olympic rowing champion Wolfgang Gunkel.
