Biography

German rower Peter Hoeltzenbein partnered Colin von Ettingshausen in the coxless pairs at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and won the silver medal. The same pair also won the national title in 1992 and were subsequently awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

In 1993, Hoeltzenbein and von Ettingshausen moved up to the eights and became world champions. The next year, Hoeltzenbein won the silver medal with Thorsten Streppelhoff in the coxless pairs. The two men also participated in the 1994 Boat Race representing Cambridge University. By profession, Hoeltzenbein became a lawyer, specialising in sport law.
