Biography

German rower Colin von Ettingshausen partnered Peter Hoeltzenbein in the coxless pairs at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and they won the silver medal. Four years later at Atlanta, Ettingshausen partnered Matthias Ungemach, but they finished a disappointing 15th.

Von Ettingshausen and Hoeltzenbein also won the national title in 1992 and both were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1993, the pair moved up to the eights and became world champions. In 1999, Ettingshausen participated in the Boat Race representing Oxford University. He graduated in business administration and was employed by the chemical company BASF.
