Biography

Frigyes Hollósi (until 1923 Jung) started his sports career as a swimmer. In 1924, he competed at the Paris Olympics with the Hungarian swimming team, but he achieved his most significant results in rowing. From 1928 he was with the Pannonia Rowing Association, and from 1933-37 he rowed in the Hungarian eight, winning two European Championship titles and competing at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. In 1937, he retired from the national team and in 1944 from active competition. Through 2020, Hollósi is the only Hungarian athlete to compete at the Olympics in both swimming and rowing.

After World War II Hollósi worked for the Municipality of Budapest and between 1945 and 1950 also served as a trainer. From 1957 he became a member of the Hungarian Rowing Federation’s administration and served as its chairman from 1971-74.
