Biography

Carmine Abbagnale was one-half of the great Italian brother rowing tandem. Together with his older brother, Giuseppe, Carmine Abbagnale won the pair oars with cox at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics and the 1981, 1982, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991 World Championships. Together the brothers lived near the ruins of the ancient city of Pompeii and trained on salt water in a Mediterranean Bay near Naples. A third brother, Agostino Abbagnale, was also a renowned rower who won three Olympic gold medals.
