Biography

As an eights rower, Prague-born Miroslav Koníček won his first major international medal at the 1959 European Championships, when his crew came in second behind the West Germans. The following year he was selected to represent his country at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where he captured a bronze medal with the eight and was eliminated in the semi-finals of the coxed fours. He followed this up with two more bronze medals in the eights, one at the 1963 European Championships and one at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, before retiring from active competition. In all of these tournaments, he served as the coxswain.
