Tall and lean at 6-6 (1.98) and 175 lbs. (80 kg.), Dave Wight was in the second seat for the Yale eight at the 1956 Olympics. He had started rowing at Phillip Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. At Yale Wight had difficulty making the varsity eight, but was moved into that boat when one of the varsity rowers was late for several practices, and Wight never moved out of the Yale eight. As a senior he helped the Bulldogs defeated Harvard. He later attended graduate school at Yale in architecture and became an architect.
