Biography

Edmund Bernhardt was born in Vienna (Wien), Austria and was a versatile sportsman, participating as a swimmer, modern pentathlete, and sports shooter at the Olympic Games. At the 1906 Intercalated Athens Games he was a member of the 4x250 metres freestyle relay squad that did not finish. He also swam the 1-mile freestyle with an unknown result.

Six years later Bernhardt went to the Stockholm Olympics as a modern pentathlete, placing eighth. He also participated as a sports shooter in the free pistol and the duelling pistol events with limited success. He emigrated to Great Britain before the outbreak of World War II, where he was the managing director of a London lighting firm.
