Biography

Heikki Huttunen was a three-time Olympian but never placed better than fifth in two free rifle team events in 1912 and 1924 respectively. In 1914, with the team he again placed fifth at the World Shooting Championships. His best individual result was a seventh place with the free rifle standing at the 1924 Worlds. Domestically, Huttunen represented the sport shooting branch of the Finnish Hunting Association and won four national titles with the free rifle. He won the 30-shot competition in 1909-10, the three-positions event in 1913, and the standing position title in 1924. He also won the free pistol title in 1919.

Huttunen was one of the founding members of the Finnish Sport Shooting Federation and was appointed as member of the board. In the 1930s. He was also sports director of the Kuopio district of the White Guards administration. After World War II, Huttunen received the Medal of Merit in silver with golden cross of Finnish Sport.

Huttenen was also an avid cross-country skier, placing fifth and seventh in the 30 km event at the 1901 and 1905 Nordic Games, respectively. In 1904, he was a member of the team that won the first cross-country skiing relay race between Helsinki and Porvoo. Also during these years, Huttunen was active organising domestic skiing events. Professionally, Huttunen obtained a master’s degree in engineering and worked as mechanical engineer and depot manager.
