Biography

German sports shooter Michael Jakosits specialized in running target events and competed at four Olympics from 1992-2004. He won the gold medal in 1992 and was placed fifth in 2004, which were his two best results. At World Championships he won a team gold medal in 2002, and an additional three silver and two bronze medals. In 1994, Jakosits was also the European champion.

Michael was the son of Hungarian Tibor Jakosits who had emigrated to West Germany after the 1964 Tokyo Games and worked as a sports shooting coach. Amongst those he coached was his son Michael, who was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 1992, he also received the German media prize Bambi.
