Ludvig Ferdinand Thielemann was the eldest son of a German butcher and sausage maker, who emigrated to Norway. He was trained in the same business and later ran an automotive shop in Drammen. In 1892, he married Cathrine Elise Olsen. Between 1909 and 1915 he won several regional competitions. At the 1912 Olympics, he placed in the lower third of two military rifle events.
