Canadian competitive swimmer Mary McConkey was a member of the South Side Swim Club in Edmonton. McConkey was a fine swimmer who held the national records in both the 50 and 100 yards freestyle. She was selected to swim at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where she was part of the Canadian team that tied for fourth with Hungary in the final of the 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay.
