Biography

French swimmer Michel Vandamme represented EN Tourcoing during the first half of the 1950s. In 1951 Vandamme and compatriots Jo Bernardo, Jean Boiteux, and Alex Jany won gold in the 4 × 200 metres freestyle relay at the Mediterranean Games. One year later Vandamme swam in the 100 metres freestyle at the Helsinki Olympics and was an alternate for the 4 × 200 metres freestyle relay. He returned to the pool at the Mediterranean Games in 1955, this time as part of the French team that won silver in the water polo tournament.
