Breaststroke swimmer Jackie Enfield never won an individual ASA title but was third in the 220 yards six times in 1961-64 and 1967-68. In 1964 she knocked one second off Anita Lonsbrough´s five-year-old British record. Enfield went on to hold the record for two years. Enfield failed to qualify from her 200 metres breaststroke heat at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, but two years earlier she had enjoyed her finest moment when she won the silver medal behind Lonsbrough in the 220 yards at the Perth (Australia) British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
Enfield married footballer Trevor Gould in 1972. He was the brother of Bobby Gould, well known as an Arsenal and West Ham player and the manager of Wimbledon when they surprisingly beat Liverpool to win the FA Cup in 1988.
