Biography

West German breaststroke swimmer Alexander Mayer finished 12th over 100 metres at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also placed fourth with the 4x100 medley relay. Domestically, he won ten national titles. Mayer later turned to triathlon and finished the Hawaii Iron Man and several ultra-marathons. In his later years he became a volleyball coach at VC Wiesbaden.

By profession, Mayer became a specialist in knee surgery, endoprosthesis of the hip and knee joint, and hip arthroscopy, at Wiesbaden. He was also engaged as team doctor for several sports clubs.
