At the end of 1930 Jeanne Grendel was part of a Dutch delegation of swimmers that undertook a three-month tour of South Africa, with them not returning home until early March 1931. The trip was used to select swimmers for the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, with Grendel being chosen to compete at the Games. She swam in the 100 metres backstroke with her finishing third in her heat with the top-two advancing to the final.
