Sigvard Andersen worked as a clerk in Bergen when he became Norwegian champion in plain high diving and platform diving in 1912. Therefore, he was selected to represent Norway at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, but he did not advance to the final in either event. Although he registered for emigration to the United States in the same year, he still lived in Norway when he won three Norwegian championships in 1920 (plain high diving, platform diving, combined event). Subsequently, he returned to the Olympics in Antwerpen in 1920, competing in the same events but without more success. By this time, he was an electrical engineer.
In 1921, Andersen eventually emigrated to the United States and settled in Gary, Indiana, where he became a salesman. His wife, Ara Marietta, was born in the United States but was of Norwegian descent.
