Biography

In 1975 Jennifer Chandler of Anniston Academy won the AAU indoor springboard title and the gold medal at the Pan American Games. At the Olympics the following year she took the lead over the 1973 world champion, Christine Köhler of East Germany, and on every dive, except the ninth, Chandler increased her lead to give the U.S. their third successive victory in the women’s Olympic springboard event. After the Olympics, Miss Chandler attended the University of Alabama. She retired from competition after a series of debilitating injuries and did some work as a television commentator.
