Biography

Toni Hewitt swam for Corona Del Mar Swim Club, primarily as a butterflyer. She was AAU Champion outdoors in the 200 fly in 1967-68, and at the 1968 US Olympic Trials, Hewitt placed first in the 200 fly and third in the 100 fly. She made the finals of both events at the Mexico City Olympics but just missed out on medals.

Later Toni Cervantes, Hewitt, who has some Cherokee ethnicity, then began a life of multiple careers. She worked as a lifeguard, a bartender in a disco, a grape picker, a macrobiotic chef, and a rock and roll seamstress selling clothes on the Venice Boardwalk and at European flea markets, but her primary career was in the performing arts.

Hewitt-Cervantes started as an actor, and eventually became the Entertainment Director for music festivals in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. She served as an agent, representing many internationally renowned eclectic jazz and world music groups, booking concert tours in North America and Europe, and then started Cervantes Nomad Casting, which is a company that finds the appropriate actors for commercials, music videos, short films and documentaries.
