Biography

While attending the University of Texas, Skippy Browning won four NCAA titles and between 1949 and 1954 he won six AAU indoor and two outdoor championships. Browning won his Olympic gold medal with an outstanding series of dives. He never scored less than seven points on any of his dives and nine of his 12 dives averaged over eight points. Browning was killed in a Navy jet crash on the Kansas plains two weeks before his 1956 Olympic training was due to begin.
