Biography

Gene Lenz swam for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and was that school’s first All-American swimmer. He competed at the 1959 Pan American Games and won bronze in the 400 metres freestyle, in addition to the 1960 Olympics. He served in the US Navy for 10 years and did three tours of duty in Vietnam. In 1972 he began a career in construction management with the Fluor Corporation, working in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and the US. He later retired but worked part-time as a stockbroker.
