Biography

Raúl Vilches was a Cuban volleyball player. Vilches was part of Cuba’s team for the volleyball tournament at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. The Cuban team went on to win the bronze medal. Four years later Vilches was part of the Cuban team for the 1980 Moskva Olympics where the team finished in seventh place. Vilches was also a member of the gold medal winning teams at the 1975 and 1979 Pan American Games as well as of the silver medal winning team at the 1983 Pan American Games.

After retiring from playing Vilches worked as a coach in Cuba. In 1998 he moved with his family to Medellín, Colombia. While in Colombia Vilches helped to form the national volleyball team.
