Biography

Giovanni Lanfranco began to play volleyball at a very young age and, at 15 years old, reached the First League with CUS Torino. With his important contributions, the team, coached by the Franco Leone and Silvano Prandi, reached the peak of national volleyball.

With Klippan Lanfranco won two titles (1979-80) and the first European Cup (1980) not won by a team from Eastern Europe. In the 1980-81 season he moved to Santal Parma, where he won two additional titles (1982-83), two European Cups and two Italian Cups.

Lanfranco débuted with the national team in the Coppa Primavera on 8 April 1974 in an Italy-Finland match (3-0). He competed at two World Championships (19th in 1974 and a silver medal four years later in the edition held in Italy) and three Olympic Games, with the highlight coming from his 1984 appearance in Los Angeles, where Italy won bronze in an edition where the Eastern European countries were absent. In total he earned 246 international caps.
