Russian volleyball player Vladimir Dorokhov had a lengthy career on both the domestic and international circuit. Dorokhov began playing the sport at a young age and made his senior début with Burevestnik Tbilisi in 1971. This was followed by a brief spell with CSKA before joining Avtomobilist in 1974, staying with the club until 1986. He was the USSR Champion in 1974 to go with a plethora of silver and bronze medals that he also won during his playing career.
Dorokhov represented the Soviet national team from 1975 to 1982 where he won multiple tournaments including four European Championships (1975, 1977, 1979, 1981), two World Cups (1977, 1981), and two World Championships (1978, 1982). A two-time Olympian, he won silver at the 1976 Montréal Games before going one better four years later to win gold at his home Olympics in Moskva. In his later career Dorokhov worked as a player-coach in Finland where he won the Finnish championship in 1988 before retiring in 1991.
