Biography

Liz Masakayan played volleyball at UCLA, leading them to an NCAA title in 1984, where she was given the tournament MVP award. She was on the US National Indoor team for five years, including her appearance at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and winning a bronze medal at the 1987 Pan American Games. Masakayan became better known for her beach play, however, but injuries kept her from ever competing at the Olympics in that discipline. Masakayan played beach mostly with partner Karolyn Kirby. Together they won 26 events on the WPVA tour in the United States, the most ever at that time for a team. On the beach they were World Champions in 1994 and also won the Goodwill Games that year. Masakayan later turned to coaching volleyball, mainly various beach pairs. He also did some modeling for fitness ads, fitness videos, and was on the cover of several US magazines.
