Biography

.Pasquale Buonocore was the goalkeeper of the Italian team that won the 1947 European Championships and the Olympic gold medal at London in 1948. In this team, memorialized by the well-known sports commentator Nicolò Carosio as “The Settebello” there were two other players from Rari Nantes Napoli, Gildo Arena and Emilio Bulgarelli, and the team dominated the national water polo scene, with five titles in the years 1939, 1941-42, and 1949-50. The team was led by Bandy Zolyomy, who went on to coach the national team that won the gold medal at Roma in 1960. In honor of his sporting achievements, Buonocore was awarded a Gold Medal by the Italian Olympic Committee.
