Jack Spargo was an LA kid, who played water polo at El Segundo High School, graduating in 1949. He worked during summers as a Los Angeles county lifeguard, strengthening his swimming skills. Spargo attended UCLA, playing water polo for the Bruins and captaining the team in his senior year.
