Biography

Herb Vollmer was a stalwart of the New York AC team for many years. He was a member of the team that won the AAU outdoor title in 1929 and he played on the last of five AAU indoor championship teams in 1936 at the age of 41. Vollmer also played on the Olympic water polo team in 1920. Vollmer started out as a swimmer, like most water poloists, and was the IC4A champion in 1915 and 1916 while a student at Columbia. His biggest day came on 17 February 1916 when he set three world indoor records en route to capturing the metropolitan 220y championship. He later became a wealth real estate broker.
