Biography

Václav Pšenička, Sr. placed second at the 1932 and 1936 Olympics, and repeated that finish at the 1937 World Championships. He set four world records from 1928-36 – two in the press and two in the total. At home, he won 15 national championships between 1926 and 1943 in the light-heavyweight and heavyweight classes. He had the reputation of being a strong lifter with limited technical skills. Pšenička worked as a streetcar driver. His son, Václav Pšenička, Jr., competed at the 1952 and 1956 Olympic as a weightlifter.
