Biography

Between 1946 and the 1952 Olympic Games, Stan Stanczyk was never defeated. He won five straight World Championships, in three different weight classes, and six straight US titles, in addition to his 1948 Olympic gold medal, and a gold medal at the 1951 Pan American Games in light-heavyweight -82.5 kg (405 kg). At the 1952 Olympics he was beaten by the Soviet, Trofim Lomakin, by only 3 kg. He won the 1953 AAU title but finished third at the 1953-54 World Championships and then retired from competition. During his career he set eight world records.
