Biography

John Bunyan Keyworth came from a family of well-known Wirral archers and both his father John and sister Mildred competed at championship level. John junior had his best year in 1902, when he finished runner-up to Reginald Brooks-King in the National Championships at Clifton College, Bristol. He did win the Fisher Cup that year, however, for the greatest number of hits in the championship. Keyworth followed that triumph by capturing the Northern Championships at Nantwich in 1903, an event he continued to compete in beyond his 65th birthday.

At the 1908 London Olympics, Keyworth competed in the Double York Round and finished ninth. He also competed in the Continental Style event and, in a field of 17, he and Henry Richardson of the USA were the only non-French competitors amongst the official entrants. Keyworth finished 12th and Richardson 15th. By profession, Keyworth was originally a cotton trader and dealer, and later became an agricultural dealer.
