Wrestler Josef Böck was a civil servant at the German Reichsbahn. He won two German youth titles before winning the German freestyle featherweight title in the Olympic year, 1936. He then qualified for the Berlin Games where he was eliminated in the second round after two losses. After the Games he obtained two more podiums as runner-up in the German Championships. Böck later became a referee and sports official.
