Biography

As well as being a champion wrestler Constantin Bușoiu was also a mathematics teacher who later became the mayor of Craiova in Romania.

As a Greco-Roman wrestler Bușoiu won the national championship on multiple occasions. At major championships he finished in fourth place at the World Championship and in sixth place at the European Championship, both in 1967. The following year he finished in fifth place in the heavyweight category at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Bușoiu was also an international referee, officiating at four Olympic Games: 1980 Moskva, 1984 Los Angeles, 1992 Barcelona, and 1996 Atlanta.

Whilst competing as a wrestler Bușoiu also worked as a mathematics teacher and a manager in education. In the latter role Bușoiu managed the Ștefan Odobleja Informatics High School where it became an elite educational unit. After the Romanian Revolution in December 1989 Bușoiu became the first mayor of Craiova in post-Communist Romania.
