Biography

August Pikker started wrestling for Tartu Tervis, later he was a member of Taara. In 1910, he was the leading wrestler of Livonia (present-day Latvia and Estonia) and in 1913 he became the heavyweight champion of the Baltic states. He competed at the 1912 Olympics in the middleweight B division (< 82.5 kg). In round 2, he was disqualified in the fight against Johan Andersson and eliminated. He wrestled professionally under the name Scharle von Ericon until 1918.

Pikker fought in the Estonian War of Independence after World War I. In 1921, he graduated from Tartu Evening High School and in 1929, he received the qualification of a gymnastics teacher. He then worked as a goldsmith in Tartu. Towards the end of World War II, he escaped to Germany, where he lived in a camp for Displaced Persons in Bavaria. He later went to the United States via Sydney, Australia in 1950.
