Biography

Hasan Güngör was the top freestyle middleweight wrestler in the World at the start of 1960s. He won Olympic gold in 1960 and silver in 1964. Güngör never won a world title, but did win silvers in 1962 and 1966 and bronzes in 1957 and 1961 at the World Championships. Güngör was European champion in 1966, Mediterranean Champion in 1963, and won the World Cup in 1958. He was Balkan Champion in 1959, winning silvers in 1960 and 1963, and a bronze in 1965. Güngör finished his sporting career after placing fourth at both the 1967 European and World Championships. After his wrestling career, Güngör worked as a wrestling coach, serving as coach of the Turkish senior and junior team for over 20 years.
