Biography

Ken Chertow wrestled at Penn State and was a college student while wrestling at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Chertow had been 1984 World Junior Champion and as a high school senior had won the 1984 US Junior Nationals in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. He won golds at the 1985 Maccabi Games title and the 1986 US Olympic Festival. After graduating from Penn State in 1989, Chertow started medical school at The Ohio State University. While there he became an assistant coach for the Buckeyes and found that coaching was his real passion. He left medical school and became an assistant at Penn State, later starting his own wrestling camps, Gold Medal Wrestling Camps, in 1994. He also wrote a motivational book about wrestling entitled, Wrestling: A Commitment to Excellence.
