Biography

Anne Minter was an Australian tennis player who played professionally from 1981 to 1991. Minter achieved a career-best singles ranking of #23 in the world in July 1988, and a doubles ranking of #68 in the world in March 1990.

Minter won three consecutive girls’ singles titles at the Australian Open from 1979 to 1981. In 1980 she was also the Australian Open girls’ doubles champion with partner Miranda Yates. Minter’s one and only WTA doubles title came in September 1984 in Salt Lake City with her sister Elizabeth. She won four WTA singles titles, with the first one coming in April 1987 at the Taipei Championships in Taiwan.

At Grand Slams Minter and partner Laurie Warder were runners-up in the mixed doubles at the 1984 French Open. She also reached the singles quarter-finals at the 1988 Australian Open, losing to Claudia Kohde-Kilsch in straight sets. In the same year Minter competed in the singles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics where she lost to Natasha Zverava in the second round. Her son, Andrew Harris, partnered with Nick Kyrgios to win the junior doubles titles at both Wimbledon and the French Open. He also reached the top 200 of the rankings as a senior.
