Only 17-years-old at the time of the 1912 Olympics and the youngest competitor in the sailing events, he was employed by skipper Harry Wahl as a boatman of the crew of the Finnish 10 metres yacht “Nina”, which placed second in Stockholm. In a race-off for silver they beat the Russian yacht “Gallia II”.
