During the 1920s and 1930s Argentine all-round track and field athlete Valerio Vallanía won ten titles at the South American Championships in Athletics. Vallanía won his first South American title in 1924 with victory in the high jump. He won a further four high jump titles (1926–27, 1929, 1931), three 110 metres hurdles titles (1926–27, 1929), and one each in the long jump and the decathlon (both in 1926). He competed in both the 110 metres hurdles and the high jump at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, finishing joint-19th in the latter.
