Hermann Fehringer was Austrian pole vault champion 11 times (1982-1984, 1986-87, 1989-1991, 1994-1996). He qualified for the 1988 Seoul and 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. In 1988, he came 13th and did not start at Barcelona.
At both the 1990 Indoor and outdoor European Championships Fehringer won two bronze medals. At the 1991 Indoor Worlds he came fifth and at the outdoor Worlds that same year, was also fifth.
Fehringer became a physiotherapist and personal trainer by profession. Among others, he coached his son Tobias in pole vaulting.
