Sprinter Gert Nöster was Austrian champion in the 100 metres (1962, 1965-66), 200 metres (1964-67, 1971), 4×100 relay (1965, 1967-69, 1971-72), and 4×400 relay (1967). He was selected for the 1960 Rome Olympics but did not start with the Austrian 4x100 relay team.
At München in 1972 Nöster ran in the heat, which saw the sprint relay team qualify for the semi-finals. Due to injury, Nöster was replaced by [Günther Würfel], but the quartet was disqualified in their semi-final heat. Nöster later became a schoolteacher specialising in sports and history.
