Biography

Vasilena Amzina was a Bulgarian middle-distance runner who competed in the 800 and 1,500 at the 1972 München Olympics. That year she had her only international medal, winning a bronze in the 1,500 at the European Indoors. Amzina competed at the European Championships in 1969 and 1971, but never survived the heats. She set five Bulgarian records, three in the 800 – 2:05.2, 2:04.8 (both 1971), and 1:59.9 (1972); and two in the 1,500 – 4:12.59 and 4:09.12 (both 1972). She was also Bulgarian Champion in the 800 in 1963 and 1966-68; and the 1,500 from 1968-71. After her competitive career ended, Amzina was for many years a CSKA coach, mainly for youths and juniors.

Personal Bests: 800 – 1:59.9 (1972); 1500 – 4:09.12 (1972).
