Biography

Aapo Perko had a relatively short career in the shot put during the first half of the 1950s, the highlight of which was his appearance at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. There, he finished 14th out of 20 entrants and just missed the cutoff in the qualifying round, as all those who threw 14.60 metres advanced, and Perko threw 14.50. This was one of eight appearances he made for Finland in international tournaments between 1951 and 1958. He had more luck domestically, winning Finnish National Championships in 1952 and 1955, and coming in third in 1954. He retired from active competition in the second half of the 1950s.

Personal Best: SP – 15.75 (1953).
