Biography

Finnish track and field athlete Väinö Rainio represented Turun Urheiluliitto in Turku where he specialised in the long jump and the triple jump. Rainio had his best success in the latter with him winning two silver medals (1918, 1924) and five bronze (1919, 1925–26, 1928–29) at the Finnish athletics championships. At the 1924 Paris Olympic Games he just missed out on a medal in the triple jump when he finished fourth with a best effort of 15.010 metres. Rainio also competed in the long jump in Paris where he finished 21st. Four years later Rainio finished eighth in the triple jump at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.

Personal Bests: LJ – 6.79 (1924); TJ – 15.01 (1924).
