Biography

Jussi Ruoho was a talented athlete from Finland who represented HKV in Helsinki. Ruoho’s preferred event was the pole vault but he also achieved success on the track and in both the long jump and triple jump. At the Finnish championships he won two gold medals in the pole vault (1917, 1920), along with three silver (1916, 1918, 1922), and two bronze (1919, 1921) ones. He also won gold in the 4 x 100 relay in 1923, silver in the triple jump in 1916, and silver in the long jump in 1918. Ruoho competed in the pole vault at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics where he finished tenth with a best clearance of 3.60 metres in the qualifying round.
